IndoAmerican Refugee and Mirgrant Organisation

Angel Town, Brixton, South London

A full gut and refurbishment for the Indo American Refugee and Migrant Organisation (IRMO), located in Angel Town, Brixton, South London. The project included a complete gut, remodel and refurbishment of their existing offices. The new layout included office space, a break out social space, classrooms, meeting and consultation rooms, new toilet blocks and a kitchen area. Due to the need for private consultation and meeting rooms, the key to this space was to try and bring light into the centre of the plan and into the internal consultation rooms that had no external facade. We achieved this with the use of polycarbonate and birch ply partitions with aluminium fixing channels. Coupled with this we invested a significant element of the budget into the ventilation system with a HRMV system. Other materials and features included the exposed existing concrete floors, the “movable wall” between classrooms. As well as designing the new layout, detailing the project for tender and acting as contract administrators during the works, we also designed and built all of the bespoke birch ply furniture. This included the birch ply kitchen, tea station and reception desk.
