Saint Matthew’s Forecourt

Westminster, Central London

The key design objective in this project was to improve the presence of St Matthew’s on Great Peter Street and create a much needed open space in front of the church for parishioners, office workers and the local community. We introduced sliding railings to maximise the space and brought in services to accommodate a coffee stall. The materials and details were carefully chosen to complement the existing fabric, picking out the stonework from the original building and ironwork from a later addition. This were simple interventions which had a big effect on the space and grade II listed building. We provided a full architectural service (RIBA Stages 1-7) working with the chosen contractor Greenside Landscapes.
